We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Human Factors professional with
5+ years of experience working in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary engineering and design environment throughout all phases of the design and development process, including leading human factors activities in the development of regulated physical and digital software medical devices and technology.

What You’ll Do

  • Be well versed in the fundamentals of human factors/usability engineering
  • Work well in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to develop and apply human factors techniques in fast paced environments as well as in long-term development schedules, adjusting the approach to fit the scope of each project
  • Design and conduct various types of human factors studies such as formative and summative validation studies following regulatory guidance in the US and abroad
  • Interact with sales teams and with clients to participate in prospective client meetings, prepare sales materials, and both support and champion the user-centered research and design approach that will bring value
  • Contribute to proposal efforts by helping to plan and schedule the human factors activities that will best support the project goals
  • Understand the human factors regulatory landscape and be able to dig deeper when needed. Contribute to risk analysis for regulated medical products in activities such as uFMEA and critical and essential task development
  • Evaluate physical and digital systems and associated user interactions for usability and safety, including physical, cognitive, environmental, and cultural characteristics


  • HFE planning for regulated medical products
  • Flexibility to fit the HFE approach to project goals and scope in a fast-paced environment to allow for the best results within the constraints
  • Ability to develop and execute sound research methodology, including formative and summative protocol development, and experience of leading preliminary human factors analyses such as task analyses and risk assessments
  • Ability to collaborate in the development of appropriate stimuli for user studies
  • Secondary research skills including literature review, competitive analysis, and claims analysis
  • Strong understanding of medical regulatory HFE requirements and practices
  • Manage outside vendors for participant recruiting, research facilities, and related research services
  • Experience with study moderation
  • Data collection and analysis including report writing, documenting analysis methods, and results
  • Ability to translate results into actionable design requirements
  • 5-7 years’ experience applying human factors engineering and usability in a multi-disciplinary engineering and design environment
  • Degree in Human Factors Engineering or equivalent discipline area
  • Advanced degree is desirable
  • Working knowledge of human factors/usability engineering standards including IEC 62366, ANSI HE75, ISO 14971, EU MDR, IVDR, and FDA guidance
  • Experience working within a product-development consulting environment, medical device, or pharmaceutical company is desirable
  • Experience across a breadth of products and systems (medical, consumer, industrial) is desirable
  • Experience evaluating and developing digital and information design is desirable
  • Experience evaluating physical ergonomics is desirable
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, and mentor human factors activities
  • Experience supporting business development activities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
