Lead Accountant Description

The Lead Accountant for North America will be joining the North America Controllership organization, with a focus on US and Canada legal entities, and supporting the Accounting Manager and Regional Controller. The Controllership’s responsibility is to maintain an effective accounting framework and related internal controls to ensure that the accounting records are complete and accurately representing the company’s financial position in compliance with US GAAP, as well as Corporate Policies. In this capacity, the Lead Accountant will highly leverage the capabilities of EPAM Global Shared Services Center (SSC) teams and review the work performed, as well as independently complete complex accounting and compliance tasks that are maintained by the Controllership.

What You’ll Do

  • North America Accounting:
    • Lead complex reconciliation processes maintained by Controllership, such as over health care expenses
    • Lead US Unclaimed Property Management processes
    • Responsible for annual 1099 compliance for US legal entities
    • Payment initiation, as needed
    • Required government survey compliance
  • North America Taxation:
    • Responsible for annual 1099 compliance for US legal entities
    • Canada monthly GST/QST calculation and filings
    • US Sales tax remittances and reconciliation assistance
    • Any other indirect tax support needed for compliance
  • North America Payroll:
    • Liaise between HR and Corporate Payroll as necessary to ensure proper communication and accurate payroll accounting
    • Monitor payroll related legislation and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, escalate if required
  • North America Controlling:
    • For certain US legal entities, the Lead Accountant will be primary owner from Controllership team, working closely with Corporate SSC Teams to maintain an effective accounting framework under US GAAP
    • Coordinate with different Global SSC teams to ensure issues are handled consistently among different teams
    • Review, analyze, and sign off monthly results for specific US legal entities during each closing to ensure accuracy of reported Trial Balance
    • Perform required account reconciliations each month in line with Corporate policy
    • Partner with SSC corporate accounting teams to continuously improve month end reporting, reconciliation, and analysis
    • Cash forecasting and management
  • Other activities:
    • Lead projects from time-to-time to support continuous improvement initiatives
    • Support the initiatives of new entity openings and lead the company set-up process from Finance side (e.g. bank accounts, local standards, etc.)
    • Support the central AP and Procurement Teams for local vendor inquiries and issue resolution
    • Other Ad-hoc activities as required


  • Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • CPA or equivalent (preferred)
  • Minimum 4 years business experience in Accounting either at a multinational company or in Audit services (Big4)
  • Excellent knowledge of US-GAAP accounting standards including related analysis and reporting
  • High integrity standards and reliability
  • Solid understanding of partnering within Finance and other local/global colleagues
  • Strong analytical and IT skills (preferable SAP, ERP, MS-Office)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills

  • Experience in working with Shared Services environment
